The Blue Pool is a magical harbour hidden in the middle of Glengarriff. Pedestrian access to the blue pool is beside Quills in the centre of the village. The blue pool is formed where the river meets the sea, a wonderful rocky inlet which is surrounded by lush vegetation. There are a number of beautiful walks through the woods with views of the harbour that are well worth exploring…

Turners Tunnels

Turners Tunnels

Turners Tunnels on the the N71 are a series of beautiful hand hewn rock tunnels. The main tunnel is pictured above and is on the Cork-Kerry border. On the Kerry side the main tunnel is followed by three more mini-tunnels, a set of twin tunnels and a final short tunnel.

As you approach Glengarriff from the Kenmare side the main tunnel dramatically frames the entry into the county of Cork. The vista that unfolds before you on the Glengarriff side is stunning with a view of Barley Lake and Bantry Bay.

Fastnet Line new Swansea Cork Ferry

The new ferry which will run between Cork and Swansea arrived in Cork Harbour at the end of September. This was an important day for tourism and commerce in the South West as it will re-open the gateway to the UK. The previous Swansea Cork ferry service was terminated in 2006 leaving the region high and dry. The new ferry is the initiative of a cooperative and has been dubbed “the peoples ferry“. Well done to all involved!

Glengarriff is one of the oldest tourist destinations in Ireland and access from the UK is key to the survival of many businesses. Support the ferry at http://www.fastnetline.co.uk/ The ferry will run from March 2010 between Swansea and Cork.
